Senior Content Editor – Development Editor
POSITION TITLE:Senior Editor, Kaplan Communications
SCOPE / OVERVIEW
The Senior Editor, Communications will oversee the development and production of an engaging, thought-provoking newsletter focusing on innovative ideas and issues surrounding the gaps/connections between education and employment, published by Kaplan and distributed to stakeholders and decision makers in higher education and workforce readiness. The newsletter is intended to enhance corporate reputation and advance Kaplan’s leadership in university and employer partnerships in developing, upskilling and reskilling talent for the future workforce economy. As part of this effort, the Senior Editor will also work with Kaplan leaders to develop and ghostwrite thought leadership articles focusing on engaging topics related to leadership, higher education, workforce readiness, learning engineering and other issues of relevance to the Kaplan leadership team. Additionally, the Senior Editor will help promote the newsletter as a vehicle for thought leadership in developing creative and innovative ideas around pathways between education and employment, serving as a media spokesperson on relevant issues.
Work with the Kaplan Communications team to establish an editorial vision, voice, and guidelines for a school-work newsletter
Oversee editorial content, including:
Working with Kaplan executives to develop bylined article ideas; edit articles for publication
Soliciting and editing submissions from Kaplan partners and other education/career readiness innovators, thought leaders for publication
Curating select news from relevant third-party news articles for inclusion
Writing editorial content as needed, including short items featuring proprietary data, editor’s notes, and other copy to contextualize articles as warranted.
EXPERIENCE / ATTRIBUTES REQUIRED:
Excellent writing and editing skills required
Ability to plan and maintain deadlines
Self-driven and able to work independently as well as collaboratively
Well organized and detail-oriented
Basic layout, design, and photo editing skills
Experience with newsletters a plus
Knowledge of the higher education industry a plus
Experience with speaking with media a plus
EDUCATION:Bachelor’s degree; Master’s a plus.
