Effective learning is active, not passive. Brilliant helps people around the world master concepts in math, science, and computer science by solving fun, challenging problems. Over 7.5 million members have joined Brilliant to learn from our community wiki and subscription courses. To understand more about our approach, read our principles, educator bios, and testimonials.
As a Science Course Writer, you will design learning experiences (centered around problem solving) that introduce topics from rocketry to the greenhouse effect to evolution, starting from first principles. You’ll play a key role in the growth of an exceptional body of content.
Specifically, you will:
Write delightful content that teaches how to think about science and engineering that’s in the news, in terms of scientific principles.
Provide a sense of what makes a concept interesting, what it means, and what it implies about the natural world.
Develop a narrative voice that empowers learners while distilling complex topics down to their components.
Work with the design team to create effective, beautiful images and interactive visualizations to illuminate concepts.
This is a remote work position.
Are a generalist with a strong grounding in physical science. To you, thermodynamics doesn’t just apply to pistons and Carnot cycles, but to the efficiency of blood oxygenation and the metabolism of elephants.
Want to communicate the sense of wonder that comes from a broad and deep knowledge of science to a popular audience who may be just starting out.
Are familiar with modern interpretations of science (information theory, networks, computation), and are comfortable using them to frame concepts when appropriate.
Wish the ghost of Feynman was still releasing first-rate conceptual explanations of science, and want to carry on similar work.
Have a degree in physical science and experience applying it in an industry, teaching, or research setting.
Are knowledgeable about active learning. Experience crafting active learning experiences is a plus.
Have an excellent sense of what makes an explanation or example great. Teaching experience is a plus.
Have a strong command of English grammar and usage.
