POSITION SUMMARY: The Research Grants Scientific Writer will assist the Research Department in capturing the committee reviews of the investigator-initiated grant proposals.
REPORTS TO: Chief Scientific Officer
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: To include, but not limited to:
Attend scheduled meetings of the following:
In-person meetings at the national office, twice a year
Senior Research Awards Review Committee
Research Training Awards Committee
Litwin IBD Pioneers Review Committee
Dial-in meetings, twice a year
Clinical Research Review Committee
Ad Hoc Research Review Committee
Take notes and construct summaries of review committee discussions to be incorporated into the final summary statements, to be approved by the Foundation staff and review committee chairs for grant applicants for the above-mentioned review committees.
The scientific writer must display meeting decorum and not be a distraction to review committee members during sessions (not answering personal mobile phones & etc).
Exceptional writing, editing, and analytical/problem-solving abilities are essential
Attention to detail and an attentive listener
Strong interest in science, and healthcare with previous professional experience requiring an understanding of medical and life sciences terminology required
Expert-level knowledge of Microsoft Word & Excel. This role requires the ability to work with large data sets in Excel; attention to detail is a critical requirement of this role
Ability to access proposal central to view/obtain materials
Knowledge of statistical concepts and grant proposal development/writing strongly preferred
Strong organizational and communication skills
Ability to work independently following a brief period of specific job-related training
High degree of personal and professional integrity
PhD in life sciences, preferably with laboratory research experience,
Excellent written and oral communications required.
A minimum 2 -4 years experience as a scientific writer is required.
Additional Experience Preferred:
Understanding/experience with the research grant application/review process
Experience on review committees, preferably as a reviewer
Scientific writing in disease-related fields, including immune-mediated disorders
Nonprofit & Philanthropy , Science , Writing , Grant Writing
