Job Description:
We are looking for an Insurance Services Specialist (Follow Up/Accounts Receivable) for our Patient Service Department. The successful candidate will accept ownership for effectively handling each form of insurance follow-up. Core responsibilities of an insurance representative include research, insurance billing, and adjustment identification to ensure proper account resolution. This is a contract-to-hire position that will last around 4 months and will be in charge of helping clean outstanding AR before fiscal year end.
MUST HAVE Additional Skills & Qualifications:
3+ yrs of insurance follow-up experience/hospital billing experience (for hospital claims) OR a mixture of physician and hospital experience is acceptable for this role
Experience calling payers (insurance companies or CMS for Medicaid) – Doing back-end internet based research. Their client handles claim appeals and this person will be contacting the insurance companies to find out/research why the claims were denied and then passing that info back to the hospital for the appeal process
Experience w/ hospital billing forms (Both 1500 and UB04) + knowledge of inpatient/outpatient denials follow up
Experience handling denials/appeals then following up on the claim.
Working A/R reports
Full understanding of insurance follow-up processes (i.e., Billing, Collections, Managed Care, Medicare, Medicaid, and Commercial Practices)
Full understanding of HIPAA
HS diploma
Experience investigating or troubleshooting claims/billing that’s been rejected
Medical terminology (preferred)
Full understanding of customer service and insurance follow-up concepts (ex. Billing A+, Collections, Managed Care, Medicare, Medicaid, and Commercial Practices)
Perfect execution of HIPAA and PCI protocols
Ability to exercise basic judgment in identifying and implementing solutions to customer concerns and inquiries with supervision and guidance from managers
Basic knowledge of health care industry terms (ex. primary care, provider, benefits, EOBs, CPT & ICD-10 codes, HCFAs, UB04s, HCPCS, DRGs, and authorizations/referrals)
Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication
Ability to multi-task, set priorities and manage time effectively
