Job Description

Title: Executive Editor, Vox.com

Remote (US Only)

Vox is looking for an executive editor who will work with the editor-in-chief to oversee Vox’s text newsroom. This editor will have a clear interest in Vox’s mission, which is to empower people with the information and insight they need to understand the world around them.

Vox prides itself on writing for the public, helping people live better lives, embracing nuance in our stories while ensuring we provide moral clarity, and tackling complex ideas and narratives in an approachable way. This editor should believe in this mission-driven approach.

The ideal candidate will be a skilled editor and leader with a clear sense of how to elevate stories, develop talent, and ensure diverse perspectives are represented in our work. They must have excellent leadership, communication, and feedback skills and experience leading large editorial teams.

This editor will oversee a largely remote group of journalists and should have the desire and ability to manage a hybrid newsroom.

The executive editor will work closely with the editor-in-chief to elevate Vox’s coverage and make sure each story lives up to the organization’s high standards

WHAT YOU’LL DO

Manage editorial directors and section editors who run large, distributed teams of writers

Lead and coordinate coverage across sections during major breaking news moments

Ensure all stories meet Vox’s high standards and work with the editorial directors to shape and guide our coverage

Oversee our story lineup by running our morning meetings

Have a deep understanding of Vox’s editorial strategy and align our work to meet those goals

Mentor and coach our ambitious team as they execute our editorial strategy and grow their skills

Work with the audience team, audio, video, and other editors across the Vox newsroom
