WiLS Is Hiring a Director!
We’re an organization that works very hard to provide excellent service to our members and to help libraries of all types and cultural institutions dream big and succeed.
We are a non-profit member-driven organization that serves libraries and other cultural institutions throughout and even outside the state of Wisconsin. We do this primarily through:
Saving our members’ time, resources, and energy by helping create or manage consortia.
Providing research, guidance, and expertise to improve services no matter what type of library.
Saving our members’ time and money by purchasing products and collaborating on projects.
Helping our members learn and grow
Much, much more!
In a nutshell, we work to provide services and resources that allow our members to get their work done in ways that make their lives and the communities they serve better. And we strongly believe that making life better for one of our members will work to make the lives of all our members better.
We want you to know about us before you apply. We’ve created a repository of information about who we are, our value to the community, and our strengths as an organization.
What we can offer you:
The chance to work with a dedicated, passionate, and funny group of people to provide services to a supportive and appreciative community.
An organization that is highly functional, financially stable, and growing.
A supportive board made up of library practitioners.
The freedom to implement new ideas rapidly.
The satisfaction of knowing you made a difference for the organization and the community.
A flexible work environment (we are a virtual office) and flexible schedule.
Ample vacation and holidays.
Access to group benefits
Annual salary is $90,000-$100,000
What we will expect from you:
Mentor and support staff: You’ll be working with a staff of leaders. It’ll be your job to help them grow and provide what they need to do their jobs well.
Develop new directions for service: WiLS primarily earns money through providing services to our members. You will be expected to identify and develop new revenue-generating programs.
Advocate for WiLS: You’ll be the face of WiLS, acting as its spokesperson in the library
community and beyond. You’ll need to maintain strong working relationships with partner
organizations and others.
Support, develop, and work with the WiLS Board and other governance bodies: The WiLS Board is fantastic, and you’ll have the chance to support them as they help WiLS.
Monitor financial position and complete budget-related activities: You’ll keep an eye on our
finances and do the due-diligence expected of a director to ensure internal controls are in place. (WiLS has a part-time contract financial officer along with a fantastic financial coordinator, so you won’t be doing this alone.)
Sustain a culture based on the WiLS organizational values: We believe and live our values. WiLS works because we have a positive organizational culture that focuses on solutions, caring, and doing the best we can. We don’t take ourselves too seriously, and work hard to approach every day with joy and levity.
Participate in project work: You’ll spend part of your time contributing to projects and
services. We don’t know exactly what this will look like, as we want to utilize the skills and
expertise you’ll bring to the table. We will expect you to be able to help with project planning and process design for any WiLS service.
Perform other administrative activities: This is all the director stuff we haven’t already
mentioned: hiring, performance monitoring, planning, creating policies, etc.
Help when needed: WiLS is an organization where we help one another. If a staff member needs help, we help them. The director participates in all hands on deck activities, offers an ear or a hand when someone is struggling, and is generally there to make sure everyon…
