The Editor will edit and compose texts, promotional materials, and manuscripts for the School of International Languages and Cultures and for individual faculty members. The ideal candidate will have a stellar record of editing academic writing and be familiar with standard style and referencing guidelines (MLA, AP, Chicago). The Editor will also be asked to deliver and execute special writing assignments and publications for ASU NOW, the SILC website, and newsletters.

Salary Range: $30.00 per hour
Edit, format, and compose texts, promotional materials, and manuscripts
Edit for accuracy, clarity and style
Conceptualize, pitch and commission both written and visual reporting for ASU NOW, the SILC website, and newsletters
Research current regarding topics that fit into SILC’s strategic narrative; develop stories in engaging ways to highlight, inform and educate
Identify and interview a variety of subject or content matter sources as appropriate for development of story
Research and review collateral and background material
Work closely with reporters, photojournalists and other staff to identify news that is timely, focused and distinctive and ensure all content is thoroughly reported, well written/produced consistent with SILC quality standards.
Bachelor’s degree in Journalism or a field appropriate to the area of assignment and five (5) years of related experience; OR, Nine (9) years of related experience; OR, Any equivalent combination of experience and/or education from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been achieved.
Evidence of a Bachelor’s degree in English.
Evidence of an M.A. degree in English
Demonstrated knowledge of the educational, research, and public service mission of The School of International Letters and Cultures.
Experience in problem solving and decisions making.
Evidence of news writing, editing and distribution of news and other publication work.
Experience in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with professional organizations, media, university administrators, faculty and staff.
Experience in using initiative, multi-tasking, working independently, and managing deadlines.
Experience in Microsoft Office and familiarity using various social media platforms and design tools (e.g., Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Snapchat, WeChat, Hootsuite, Mailchimp, WordPress, Google Analytics, Adobe Creative Cloud, Canva, etc.).
Experience working with culturally diverse groups.
Activities are primarily performed in a regular, climate-controlled office setting subject to extended periods of sitting, using a computer, standing, walking.
Activities can be performed remotely.
Professionally represent department.
Ability to communicate verbally and in written to effectively perform essential job duties and functions.
This position will be 1 – 19 hours a week.
