MATRIX is seeking a AWS Architect for our client headquartered in Harrisburg Pennsylvania.This posiiton is aremoteposition, so the candidate can sitanywherein the U.S.Our non-profit client is a national provider of student financial aid services, serving millions of students and thousands of schools through its loan guaranty, loan servicing, financial aid processing, outreach and other student aid programs. The AWS Architect drives the migration from the legacy mainframe to the cloud. This position drives architectural decisions around key platforms and capabilities, architects, designs and delivers those key platforms and ensures cloud services platform performs to expected levels, responding to production problems, including investigating root cause and developing long-term solutions.
They are building out work for student loans and all their data is housed in a mainframe system (IBM DB2 database) and they are moving to the cloud. They are an AWS environment they have some Azure but that is very little. The bulk of the work will be AWS. The team size is comprised of 40 people (they fluctuate between 20-40 resources). They are a 24X7 operations so they need people who can work on call rotation. Typical office hours are 8:00-5:00 as well as after hours during implementation and once a month on call rotation. They typically have more than one person on call at a given time due to the technical environment.
Terraform experience- This is a required skill.
The more experience the better but he won’t rule out some with a minimum of 2 years of Terraform if they have a strong development background and very smart.
Reason position is open:
PHEAA changed their business model from acontractorto federal government model and the U.S. Government granted an option for student loans to zero out on the percentage of amount due on loan, due to COVID-19. They are currently spending $25 Million annually for mainframe system and will see a reduction in spend when the migrate to the cloud, saving $18-25M per year. They are eventually looking to become a SAAS model for student loans and will be implementing DevOps/Agile.
PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Responsible to drive architectural decisions, develop guidance and best practices and deliver the technical capabilities, especially around the area of industry expertise.
Manage customer expectations, influence key technical decisions, provide best practices, and guide architectural principles and leading communities of practice on key technology elements
Engineer, deliver and support all aspects of the client’s AWS Cloud in alignment with NIST 800-53, FedRamp and Enterprise Architecture and Enterprise Security Architecture standards
Accountable for debugging cloud-based distributed systems (AWS)
Accountable to architect, engineer, deliver and support all solutions as IaC using Terraform in conjunction with various configuration management tools (e.g. Ansible)
Lead the AWS environment performance management, logging, monitoring, reporting and Amazon Machine Images (AMIs) in conjunction with security policies to ensure compliance and meet audit requirements (Federal and otherwise)
