Visual Science Communications Specialist (Remote)
Location: VA-Reston
The U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) National Climate Adaptation Science Center (NCASC) manages a network of nine regional Climate Adaptation Science Centers (CASCs) located across the U.S. Together, the National and regional CASCs conduct research to understand how changing climate conditions impact fish, wildlife, ecosystems, and communities. Through this work, we aim to provide on-the-ground natural resource managers and other stakeholders with scientific information and decision-making tools to help them understand, respond, and adapt to these changes.
Science communications and translation is central to informing partners and the public about the results and importance of CASC-funded research and to educating the public and resource managers about climate change concepts that are central to the CASC mission (e.g., climate adaptation). Visual science communication is an important tool for broadening the reach and application of CASC science and educating the general public. Through products such as infographics, illustrations, and diagrams, complex concepts can be conveyed in a format that is digestible to a wide and varied audience. Akima Systems Engineering is looking for a Visual Science Communications Specialist who will work with NCASC communications team and scientists to develop visual communications products that convey the outcomes of CASC science and describe the goals and activities of the CASC network.
